We were
assigned to think of something that breaks the rules of the norm. Being that
this is a Creative Thinking class, we decided upon something that is considered
rule breaking but still has an artistic vibe towards it and thus, decided on Parkour. We have chosen parkour and link it to the aspects of Singapore as it
is considered as a public disturbance. Parkour is the
activity or sport of moving rapidly through an area, typically in an urban
environment, negotiating obstacles by running, jumping, and climbing. As
Singapore is a country filled with rules to avoid chaos amongst the public,
this activity is banned if a person practices it without a license. The purpose
of parkour is to discipline a person whilst moving in freedom. Doing this project has thought us that breaking the rules does not necessarily need to be out of rebellion and create chaos, instead rule breaking can actually produce a fruitful outcome if it is being properly controlled and monitored, just like parkour. If the activity is done in proper measure, while following its rules of self-discipline, it could produce strong charactered individuals who can create such fluid movements, through its trainings and practice.
